week 14 (10th Feb)

This is the final week of the BFI where we first celebrated and looked back on the course to talk about what we liked and what could have been improved about it. We then watched the other groups' rough cuts as our edit wasn't finished yet which was really insightful as we were able to hear why they made the creative decisions they did. It also gave us a good idea of what our rough cut might look like. After this we finished off any final production work we needed to do where I started to make a layout and filling in the details of the call sheet. I got one of my group members to read out the details I needed for the risk assessment so that we would type it out more efficiently. We were told our risk assessment had to be formatted correctly so we started working on that as a group so we could do it efficiently alongside the call sheet this meant we got any final production pieces finished in good time to meet the deadline.

This course has been incredibly helpful in developing my media skills. While the project went well we had an issue with finding some of our audio and videos. We had lost a section of the documentary in the transfer of files which meant it had to be cut but it was not a necessary part of the documentary so we could simply cut it out which was unfortunate but we had to continue regardless. We also couldn't use the audio for the introduction to the documentary so we had to scrap that footage and instead put exposition in front of some B roll.

However, what went well was organising the group's ideas to make a coherent documentary that everyone was happy with and I'm really pleased with the compliance of the group I was in. They also helped me learn skills about film equipment like lights and microphones and how to operate them. This flexibility will come in handy in any future film projects I take part in. It also helped further my understanding of camera equipment and how projects with multiple people operate. If I was to do the project again I would take the role of camera operator more to further my skills even more.

My favourite part of the project was organising ideas for the project and making sure everyone had their own input. This combination of ideas meant that we were able to make a coherant storyline and conclusion throughout the documentary was the part of our final project that I thought worked best. On the other hand the replacement for our introduction I don't think worked as well though and wish we were able to use our original introduction we filmed.
